Charlie has found his forever home
Charlie
Charlie is a male Ruby coloured Cavalier and he came into this world on Jan 19, 2016
at the vets via C-Section. Charlie's mother passed away from complications to her C-Section
a few days after he was born.
Normally we sell our puppies at the age of 12 weeks but we kept Charlie until now because we
were planning on using him as a stud dog when he got a bit older. Unfortunately only one of Charlie's
testicles have descended and it is unlikely that the second one will. There are no health issues from
only having the one testicle descended but it would be irresponsible on our part to breed him as such
as this trait could be passed down to his offspring. As a result of this we will not breed him and
we are sadly looking for a forever home for him.
Because Charlie's mother passed away Charlie was hand-fed until he was able to eat on his
own. He is no worse for wear and he is a very strong and healthy pup. The vet has
given him a thumbs up and a clean bill of health aside from the above mentioned.
Hand raising/feed a litter is a lot of work and during the first few weeks the puppies are fed every 2
hours and they need our assistance in helping them eliminate because they are unable to do so
on their own. Consequently there was not a whole lot of sleeping happening around the house.
We have to say that although it was tiring to hand-feed / raise a litter of puppies, it was also an
extremely rewarding experience. The way you bond with a litter that you have to hand-feed
is completely different in an amazing way from how you would bond when mom is with the
pups and she is doing all the work. We now fully understand exactly how much work
a mother dog does and our hats goes off to them for doing it.
We did have little help however when the pups were a little bit older. Our other two female
cavaliers mothered them in every way aside from nursing them. After we hand-fed the pups we
would put them down beside us for a short while and our girls would clean them up and nurture
them. Actually there was a bit of a competition to see who could get to the pup
first and lick the food off their faces.
This litter in particular received tons of extra attention from us and from our other female dogs.
Once Charlie and his siblings were a little older we put them in a doggie bed right beside us
and our female dogs would take turns lying down snuggling and sleeping with them. This entire litter
have had all the nurturing that a mother would provide from their surrogate mothers and they
are very comfortable being held, touched and kissed by their human parent.
When we ask the dogs "Who wants out" Charlie runs as fast as he can to the door to go
outside. He really likes to lie around in the warm sun and is in no hurry to come back into
the house with the other dogs. We normally let him stay out until he is ready to come
back in on his own. (This is about 15 ish minutes or so).
Charlie is very use to going outside to do his business when we let him out but he has also
been trained to use pee pads in the house. He is pretty good at hitting the mark on the pee pads
but sometimes if he isn't paying attention his misses it slightly. If you want Charlie to eliminate
outside only you will need to train him to your preference. He will need frequent visits outside until
he understands that is the only place you will be allowing him to do his business. He has been
trained to eliminate both ways so they he will be able to live an apartment without outside access
or a home with access to a outside potty.
Charlie has been allowed to sleep with us in our bed since he was 8 weeks old so we are looking for a
home that would allow him to continue this. He likes to snuggle in with us and get his belly rubbed.
Charlie is really a sweet boy and has an awesome disposition. He is gentle and he will be your
little shadow, following you around everywhere and just wanting to be with you. He is quite laid
back for the most part and he is quite curious about everything too. We would not be re-homing
Charlie if both of his testicles had dropped and whoever is chosen to be his forever home
will be getting an awesome little fellow.
